BBoy Hodown is a celebration of the underground art forms of Hip-Hop and the styles that spawned from it. What was born in 2004 as a simple dance event, blossomed into the premiere international dance competition/festival here in the southern hemisphere of the United States. 2006 was a groundbreaking year for BBoy Hodown with dancers from all over the world, such as Korea, Japan, France, Canada, Denmark, Mexico and all parts of the USA, in which they all participated in two days of non-stop competition. With over 6,000 Dollars and 7 categories to battle in, the competition was fierce! Out for one title, dancers battled it out with one another from beat ridin’ of Popping, to the free your mind attitude of House. With our recent addition of the Up-rocking battle we continue to expand our dance forum. Not only is BBoy Hodown a dance competition, but it is a panorama of Hip-Hop featuring an Emcee battle, Graffiti battle, Poetry, a Film Festival, a Political Panel and a Concert. This event is five days of non-stop Hip-Hop and a marvel in its own right. This double disc DVD is a voyage through the evolution of skills, art, fashion, dance, people, politics and culture. It captures the way BBoying/Bgirling has evolved into a bona fide dance form with skills that are heart stopping, gravity defying and in your face! That’s not all though…you will be amazed to hear how politics is integral to the growth or demise of Hip-Hop. In our political panel, included this year you can experience the shocking political views within the Hip-Hop community. Interviews with many of the world-wide judges, DJ’s and special guests include Kool Herc, “The Father of Hip-Hop” and Saul Williams, one of the most influential poets of our time and listen to one of Hip-Hop’s leading film Director, Israel. CypherStyles Editor’s Review:After seeing the video for BBoy Hodown 2005, I knew I had to go to this massive Texas event to experience it myself. BBoy Hodown is a Urban Dance Mecca, a combination BBoy, Popping, Graffiti, MC, Up rock and House Dance event. BBoy Hodown 2006 is a competition for the highest levels of urban art and expression. The attendance and degree of skill multiplies exponentially every year as it's reputation grows. Only 3 years in, BBoy Hodown 2006 brought crews from all over America, Japan, Korea and all over Europe and the end result of an amazing battle and months of editing and production is 2 disks and over 10 hours of the best street dance competitions you’ll find anywhere. It features many of the best dancers in the world, in incredible battles and the best edited and produced street dance Video I’ve ever seen to date (and I’ve seen almost every street dance video released in the last decade!)Whatever style of Street Dance you like to watch or do, do not miss the BBoy Hodown 2006 DVD set, seriously! And if you get the chance, get yourself out to BBoy Hodown 2007 this December. BBoy Hodown 2006’s was the most fun I’ve ever had at any event I’ve ever been too, and I plan on making BBoy Hodown an annual vacation. Props and thanks to Rishi, Sol and every one working hard to put this groundbreaking, top quality street dance event together. It’s not every day that videos are released that will still be classics many years later. It's no exageration to say that BBoy Hodown 2006 will still be a dope part of your video collection when you are loaning it out to your grandkids.
